So, as part of Reading Ireland Month 2015 (a.k.a. The Begorrathon), I’m reading The Butcher Boy by Patrick McCabe (1992). Set in small town 1960s Ireland, The Butcher Boy tells the tale of a trouble youth named Francie Brady; covering alcoholism, mental heath problems, abuse, and murder. Sounds right up my street!
For an academic look at the novel, you can view Dr. Eamonn Hughes’ lecture on The Butcher Boy here.
I love that cover, captures the book perfectly!
